BLUE DART EXPANDS KOLKATA OPERATIONS

August 30, 2001 : Blue Dart Express Limited, India's largest integrated air express and logistics company, moved into its new office premises at Kanak Building in Kolkata. Sister Nirmala of the Missionaries of Charity inaugurated the new office. In keeping with Blue Dart's technology orientation, with a tap on the computer key, a personal mail was sent from her to all Blue Darters on the intranet. In 1995 Mother Theresa had inaugurated Blue Dart's earlier office in Kolkata in a similar fashion.
Blue Dart has an aircraft based at Kolkata, which strengthens its presence and commitment to growth in the East. On the occassion, Mr. Amod Dasgupta, Vice President - East, Blue Dart Express Limited, said, "In alignment with our network expansion strategy, we are looking forward to extending our range of high quality services and providing worldwide connectivity to the eastern townships. Moving to larger premises at Kolkata is a reiteration of our commitment to this integration process".
The office is fully quipped with state-of-the-art technology, and connects the North-East locations through Gauhati via VSAT. Modern, computerised communications systems facilitate efficient operations. The five service centres spread across the city ensure timely pick-up and delivery. The 24-hour service counter provides customers with round-the-clock service. Blue Dart has an extensive network in the Eastern Region, with 32 Strategic Alliances and over 80 Franchisees. All services are supported by Blue Dart's strong technology infrastructure.
Blue Dart's aircraft at Kolkata, enables carriage of cargo into neighbouring countries like Bangladesh. Blue Dart Aviation has operated several charter flights in the past, bringing in aquaculture from the South, and carrying emergency supplies into Gujarat as well as flood-hit areas in the North East. Blue Dart Aviation has its own ground-handling and maintenance capability crucial to operations to and from Kolkata.
